SápmiDem project partner and senior research fellow at the Stockholm Environment Institute, Annette Löf, gave an interview to the Barents Observer on 22 September 2025.

The article explains well how conflicts over the so-called green transition, security, lands, and livelihoods are playing out in Sweden, Norway, Sápmi, and Europe right now.

”In our research in SÁPMIDEM and Mistra Mineral Governance, we see risks of compromising human rights and democratic values as a consequence of fast-tracking “strategic” mineral extraction projects. ”Given this wider geopolitical context and potential violation of human rights, indigenous interests in Norway and Sweden cannot be left out of any discussion around European energy security”, Löf concluded.
